Donald Weymann, MD Obituary

Donald R. Weymann, M.D., of Richmond, VA passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 8, 2020 at the age of 92.  Cause of death was having lived a long and fabulous life! He was born 06/19/1928 in Garden City to Emma Dieckman and Arthur Weymann.

Don is survived by his dear and devoted family, including his sister, Alice Matson, and children David (MaryLou), Bayport, NY; Valerie (Frank) Thomas, Severna Park, MD, Dr. Donna (Gary) Session, Franklin, TN, Melanie (Michael) Moore, Richmond, VA, William (Patchogue, NY), Rita (Kit Stewart) O’Brien, Bayport, NY, Nancy Blomberg, East Patchogue, NY and Daniel Blomberg, Ronkonkoma, NY., as well as his nieces Cathy (Mike) Matson McDonough and Janet Thompson.  He was also an extremely proud grandfather to Ryan (Megan) Session, Justin Session, Elizabeth Weymann, Madison and Keaton Thomas and Zach Moore, as well as great-grandfather to Bobby Session. He is predeceased by his loving wife, Rita (O’Brien) Weymann and his son, Joseph Blomberg.

Don served in the U.S. Air Force and was a graduate of Wesleyan University and SUNY Downstate Medical Center.  Dr. Donald R. Weymann began his medical career as a pediatrician in private practice in Smithtown, NY.  He was a dedicated and long-term employee of the NYS Office of Mental Health, having worked at Central Islip Psychiatric Center, Little Flower Children and Family Services, Wading River, NY, North Suffolk Mental Health Center, Smithtown, NY and retired as the Medical Director of Sagamore Children's Psychiatric Center, Melville, NY having worked there from its inception.

Don enthusiastically enjoyed his life with Rita as they took many adventures travelling the globe.  They especially enjoyed the company of family and hosted regular family night dinners.  Don had a great love for cooking and experimenting with new recipes and he made a mean Steak au Poivre! He was an avid reader, especially enjoying history and non-fiction books. Wood-working was another hobby and he was often working on a new project. Unfortunately, Don also had a lifelong fondness for corny jokes!! Don had a passion for all varieties of music and he and Rita would compete to see who was “cooler” by discovering the newest musical sensations! He enjoyed music so much that he played “DJ Don” on Friday nights at the “Happy Hour” at Heritage Oaks, his senior living community in Richmond, VA.
