Donald B. MacKenzie, Jr., 83, a resident of Bayport for nearly 60 years, died on Wednesday, November 13, 2024. Raised in Sayville, Donald graduated from Sayville High School and went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree at Long Island University. He became a teacher in Sayville School District where he taught for more than forty years. Mr. MacKenzie coached track for most of his career and was proud to have started the girl’s track program. Mr. Mac was recognized for his role in Sayville athletics when he was honored as the Spike Daly Man of the Year at the annual Bill Zeller Memorial Golf Outing.
Mr. MacKenzie was predeceased by his wife Ingrid in 2011. He is survived by two children; his son, Donald III and his wife Barbara and his daughter, Kristin Greves, both of Bayport, his four grandchildren, Sonja, John, Alexander and Isabella, as well as his sister, Barbara Shea and her husband Jimmy of Sayville.
Funeral arrangements for Mr. MacKenzie were private and were entrusted to Raynor & D’Andrea Funeral Homes.
