Donald Beebe Obituary

Donald J Beebe (Don), 77, of Sayville, New York, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2026. Born on May 10, 1948, in Bay Shore, New York, Don lived a life filled with adventure, camaraderie, and an enduring love for the sea. Don was predeceased by his father, Warren "Cy" Beebe; his mother, Marion (Snedecor) Beebe; and his older brother, David Beebe. He cherished the bonds he shared with his family and friends throughout his life. Don’s “family” extended far beyond traditional ties to include lifelong friends who stood by him for over 70 years and cousins with whom he maintained close relationships through stories, phone calls, and heartfelt expressions of love. An avid sailor with an unyielding passion for the water,

Don spent countless days navigating the Great South Bay and venturing as far as the Caribbean. His dedication to sailing was evident in his proud lifetime association with both the Wet Pants Sailing Association and the Sayville Yacht Club. In his prime, Don competed in national and international small sailboat regattas, earning recognition for his skill and determination. Don’s legacy at the Sayville Yacht Club is cemented not only by his sailing achievements but also by a legendary moment in club history. During the bitter winter of 1977, when the Great South Bay froze solid enough to support vehicles from Fire Island to the mainland, Don famously drove the then-commodore across the frozen bay directly to the clubhouse deck—a daring feat that remains a cherished tale in club lore. Known for his infectious grin and endless repertoire of stories, Don was truly "the fun at the party." His kindness knew no bounds; he was always ready to lend a helping hand or even give someone the shirt off his back—sometimes quite literally. Those who knew him will forever remember his generosity of spirit and unwavering warmth. May Don’s memory bring comfort to all who were fortunate enough to know him.
