Dolores Sedlack Obituary

Dolores Marie (Hamilton) Sedlack

 June 13, 1929 – March 27, 2025

With heavy hearts, we celebrate the life and legacy of Dolores Marie (Hamilton) Sedlack, a remarkable woman whose wisdom, strength, and grace touched all who knew her. Dolores passed away peacefully three months shy of turning 96, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and inspiration.

Born on June 13, 1929, in Manhattan, New York, to John and Anna Hamilton, Dolores grew up during the Great Depression and later navigated the challenges of World War II. She emerged from these times a woman of unwavering determination and deep compassion.

After graduating Hunter College, she married Ralph William Sedlack in August of 1952. Together, they raised a beautiful family in Northport and West Sayville. All eight of their children graduated from Sayville High School.

Dolores was a devoted mother, balancing her career and busy home life with amazing grace. A woman of strong work ethic and keen intellect, she worked at Oysterman's Bank in Sayville and later as a legal secretary, where her professionalism and warmth left a lasting impression.

A proud Irish-American at heart, Dolores cherished her heritage. Not a day passed without her enjoying a nice cup of tea and perhaps a baked treat.

Dolores was sharp as a tack up until her passing. She was very intelligent & knowledgeable on so many topics. She even amazed & amused us with her sports wisdom, whereas she could talk about the Yankees, Rangers, & Giants with some of her children, & also discussed & watched the Mets with other children. She stayed abreast of world & USA events & was always so happy to see her family. She knew everyone's names & what was going on in all of our lives. Just so impressive a woman she was.

Yet above all, her greatest joy came from time spent with her loving family. Her presence radiated kindness and endless love to her sons and daughters, their spouses and of course all her treasured grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  Dolores’s love was the glue that bound her family together, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who held her dear.

Dolores was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ralph Sedlack; her sister, Anne; and her sons, John, and Randy. She is survived by her children, Paul Sedlack (Gayle), Charlanne Brown (Hal), Ralph Sedlack (Sue), Donna Trast (Steven), Mary Sedlack, and Ann Falanga (Anthony); 15 cherished grandchildren; Jessica, Janelle, Jeremy, Jaimie; Lisa, Katrina, Darlene; Frank, Kenneth, Daniel; Carissa, Jeniece; Corinna; and Amanda & Michael, 19 adored great-grandchildren; and countless family members and friends who were blessed to know her.

Dolores’ memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A celebration of Dolores’s life will be held at Raynor and D’Andrea Funeral Home, Montauk Highway, West Sayville, on Tuesday, April 1st  10:00 - 11:00 a.m., followed by interment in Calverton National Cemetery, and then a luncheon at the West Sayville Country Club/The Mansion. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to JDRF ( Breakthrough T1D) or MS (National Multiple Sclerosis Society in her memory.
