David S. Loudon, Sr. passed away peacefully at his home in Blue Point, New York, on May 5, 2025, surrounded by his family. He leaves behind a legacy of love, family, and diverse passions. David is survived by his wife of 58 years, Catherine Burns Loudon; children David S. Loudon, Jr. and Holly Loudon; daughter-in-law Doreen Loudon and son-in-law Chad Scott; granddaughter Juliet Loudon Scott; step-grandchildren Aja Rodriguez, Laura Gottfried, Elsa Schock, William Schock; and his brother Joseph Nicholas Loudon, Jr.
Born in Bay Shore, NY to Dorothy Harriot (Lyon) Loudon and Joseph Nicholas Loudon, David was the fifth of six children. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his sisters, Dorothy Brown and Betty Loudon, and brothers, Robert and William Loudon.
David was known for his calm demeanor and great sense of humor, and was always busy with one of his many hobbies. He was a craftsman and artist, enjoyed gardening, and sailing on the Great South Bay. David had a deep appreciation for music, especially opera, and enjoyed the thrill of driving his Corvettes a little too fast.
David and his wife Cathie shared a passion for genealogical research that started long before the internet and DNA testing; they researched their families extensively over the decades, eventually privately publishing "Six Loudons" a chronicle of David’s Lyon and Loudon ancestries.
David had a long and successful career with the Long Island Lighting Company and reminisced very fondly about his years as their field agent for Fire Island. He had a profound respect for nature and the beauty of his surroundings, with a special fondness for the beach and the sea.
His immediate family held a private ceremony, and he was laid to rest at Oakwood Cemetery in Bay Shore, NY, alongside his parents and brother Robert Loudon.
