Cheryl Cody Obituary

Cheryl Cody passed away peacefully at Good Shepherd Hospice on April 5, 2025, with her loved ones by her side, after a remarkable year of living with cancer.

She is survived by her mother, Linda (Bart) Reich; her beloved partner, Julien Valenstein; her sisters, Michelle Cody Hartman (Don), and Debra Morton (Brent) of CT; her brother, John Cody (Meaghan) of TN; and her stepmother, Eva-lena Cody of TN. Cheryl was a cherished aunt to Hunter, Shane, and Haley Morton of CT, and Emma and Harper Cody of TN. She is also survived by her loving aunts, Eileen Paulson (Harold) of NY, and Vanda (Edward) Broadbridge of Luton, England, along with many dear cousins.

Cheryl was born in London, England on April 11, 1967. She is predeceased by her father, John Cody; her grandparents, Mathew and Helen Cody, and Roy and Beryl Mallows; and her uncle, Mathew Cody.

Cheryl will be remembered as a loving daughter, partner, sister, aunt, pet mother, and friend. She had a kind heart and gentle spirit, and brought warmth, humor, and compassion to all who knew her. Her sharp intellect, lightheartedness, and joyful presence will be deeply missed.

Cheryl earned her Bachelor of Psychology from Adelphi University and dedicated her life to helping others. She began her career at AHRC of New York, supporting individuals with developmental disabilities. Later, she earned her CASAC (Certified Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor) certification, enabling her to provide specialized care to those facing addiction. For the past several years, Cheryl worked as a social worker at Concern Housing, where she supported individuals and families in achieving housing stability and community integration with dignity and compassion.

Outside of work, Cheryl found joy in gardening, cooking, reading, hiking, and music. She especially loved spending time at her family’s beach house in Westport, CT. She had an insatiable curiosity and was always reading or learning something new. Cheryl also shared a deep love for her pets Daisy, Devon and Karma, whom she doted on endlessly.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Cheryl’s memory to Good Shepherd Hospice or Rawhide Rescue of NJ.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Stony Brook Hospital and Good Shepherd Hospice for their extraordinary care and support over the past year.
