Caroline (“Lynn”) Martha Meek Schiller, daughter of the late Eva (Kreiser) and William L. Meek died on March 24, 2026, at the age of 93.
Lynn was raised in Garden City, NY, California, and Bayport, NY. A Bayport resident since 1948 she graduated from Bayport High School and went on to graduate from Plattsburgh State Teachers College.
Lynn was a devoted teacher for 41 years in the South Country School District in Bellport, NY, retiring in 1995. She held high expectations for her students. While stressing the importance of reading, writing, and arithmetic, she infused special art projects throughout the year encouraging self-expression. Many of her students remember the teepee erected in the classroom during their study of Native Americans and weaving Easter baskets to welcome spring.
Lynn was a homebody at heart, loving her home and yard. She cherished her cats Cocoa, Tao, and Teko there; baked delicious breads for her family and friends; and created beautiful needlepoint creations.
Lynn was preceded in death by her husband Charles and twin sister, Barbara (“Bobbie”). She is survived by her daughter Caroline Caputi and son Carl Schiller and their families.
A wake will be held on Tuesday, March 31st from 3-7 P.M. at Raynor and D’Andrea Funeral Home in West Sayville, and a church service will be celebrated at 10 A.M. on Wednesday, April 1st at St Ann’s Episcopal Church in Sayville. All are welcome. Interment will follow in St. Ann’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or Shriners Hospitals for Children and would be appreciated by the family.
