Barbara Anne “Bobbie” King, daughter of the late Eva (Kreiser) and William L. Meek died at her home in Sayville, NY on March 16, 2025.
Bobbie was raised in Garden City, NY., California and Bayport, NY. Bobbie graduated from Bayport High School and went on to graduate from Syracuse University earning her B.S. in Nursing in 1954.
Bobbie was a nurse for 50 years beginning in Public Health and ending in the public school system as the school nurse at Cherry Avenue Elementary School in Sayville. Many of her students remember her to this day. She was always there when you had a fever, earache, stomachache, scrapped knee, needed stitches from falling off the monkey bars, or just offering a hug when you were scared. She gave you hearing tests, checked you for lice, gave eye tests and used merthiolate, and gave you sucrets lozenges when you had a sore throat back in the day.
Bobbie was never without a beloved canine companion. She loved to garden, priding herself on her lovely, landscaped yard. She was always on the go either taking pictures of her many adventures, weddings, graduations, birthday and anniversary parties. She and Chuck were avid travelers having been on many cruises, traveling through the Rockies by train, or going across the pond. She loved to cross stitch, her creations were given to family and friends, truly something to be cherished. She was in a Monday night bowling league for years.
Bobbie had a great sense of humor, she was kind, generous and giving of her time. She loved to host friends and family for dinner and holidays. Her annual holiday eggnog party was attended by many of her friends and coworkers. Bobbie would care for family and friends who needed assistance after surgeries, injuries, or illness-the nurse in her always came out to console and comfort those in need.
Bobbie was preceded in death by her beloved husband Charles (Chuck) King. She is survived by her twin sister, Caroline Schiller, her niece Caroline Caputi, her nephew Carl Schiller and their families.
A church service will be celebrated on Saturday, March 29, 2025 11:00 a.m. at St. Ann’s Episcopal Church, Sayville. All are welcome. Interment will follow in St. Ann’s Cemetery.
