Anastasia Matthews, age 87, of Islip, formerly of West Islip died on April 15, 2022.
Loving wife to her devoted husband of 63 years, John Glenn. Beloved mother of John Glenn III and Kathleen Arso. Nurturing Nana to Alicia and Tom Distefano, Alexandra and Rachel Arso. Proud great Nana to her "little darlings" Tyler and Juliana. Cherished sister of Mary Ann Scheyder, sister in law of Helen Kelerman. Devoted and proud Aunt and Godmother.
Ann to some, Staci to others but no matter what you called her she had the gift of being a friend. Right up until the end she was concerned about calling her friends. Some of those friendships, she was proud to say, were from grammar school (Pat), her first job (Ann, Barbara), and her years in West Islip and North Carolina. She valued all of her friendships whether they were old or new, all of these relationships were of equal importance to her. She especially valued the relationships she had developed when she moved back to New York, and all of the love and support that welcomed her upon her return. She was so thankful for her "sons" Chuck and Tim who took her to countless doctor visits. To the family of her beloved friend Betty: Karen, Sue and Leighann for being on call for emergencies or just dropping in for a visit to make her smile.
She was an avid reader, liked to sew and crochet. As her eyes began to fail over the years she struggled to continue several of those hobbies. Her loving husband knew how much she loved to read and read to her everyday so that she'd never have to give it up. During her time back in NY she enjoyed playing games be it solitaire on her phone or with her family and friends. Thank you to her bingo buddy and all those who helped her master Jenga, the name game and Uno. She knew that her husband liked to win CandyLand when her little darlings came so she left that for him. Family will receive visitors on Wednesday, April 20th from 2 - 4:30 & 7 - 9:30 p.m. at Raynor & D'Andrea Funeral Home 245 Montauk Hwy. West Sayville.
