Interment to follow at Blue Point Cemetery.

Alfred William Furchert, Jr., 82, and lifelong resident of Blue Point, LI, died on March 31, 2022. Raised in Blue Point by his parents Alfred Sr. and Evelyn.  Al graduated from Bayport High School and then attended SUNY Farmingdale where he earned his Associates Degree in Power Technology.  He owned Blue Point Friendly Service which he sold in 2001 after 66 years of family ownership.  He then went onto work for St. Anne’s RC Church in Garden City and the Town of Brookhaven.

Al was a fixture in the community as a 60+ Year Volunteer in the Blue Point Fire Department. He served as Commissioner for 30 years, Captain and Lieutenant of the Hook and Ladder Company, Warden, and Fire Police. He was recognized in 2020 for his contributions by being made an Honorary Chief.  In addition to the above Al was a member of the Blue Point Lions Club, Blue Point Cemetery Board, Good Fellows of Suffolk County, Patchogue Ambulance, and North Patchogue Marching Band. He also was the Grand Marshal of the Blue Point St. Patrick’s Day Parade in 1996.

Mr. Furchert is survived by his wife, Marilyn, his four children, Robert of Deer Park, Chris and his wife Diane of Blue Point, Michael and his wife Michele of Selden, Todd and his wife Amy of Blue Point, as well as his nine grandchildren Christopher, Corinne, Robert, Jacqueline, Victoria, CJ, Katherine, Michael Jr., and Alyssia and 4 Great grandchildren Jason, Raelynne, Carter and Niko.

In lieu of flowers, contributions made to the Blue Point Firemen’s Benevolent Association, 205 Blue Point Avenue, Blue Point, NY 11715, are appreciated.
