I trained with Bob- under sensei ted rossi, hicksville, back in the 60's. From there, i went on to shotokan karate. Bob was a great mentor even then- he was a brown belt then- he liked my oi tsuki ( front punch)- i cud see, even then, Bib was a true student of the arts. I didnt see him after sensei rossi's school- but now i miss having not staying in touch. A very good guy

My deepest condolences go out to the family And students of grandmaster Bob Malvagno .
I met Grandmaster Bob after hearing amazing stories about him from my uncle Thomas Guarino. My Uncle Tom brought me over to Grandmaster Bobs school when it was up stairs atop a store.
I was in awe of his amazing skills and incredible attitude. He told me with hard work anyone can achieve anything they desired. Those words inspired me for over the past 35 years of my life and I Cherish the introduction to the martial arts I was given by Grandmaster Bob as a young kid and the guidance and conversations I have had with him over the years, although they were not many lessons or conversations they were lessons that will be with me forever!
Thank you Grandmaster Bob for being an inspiration and touching the lives of so many.
I wil always remember you!

I first wish to express my deepest heart felt condolences to Grandmaster (my Sensei) Bob Malvagno's family, staff and students (both current and past).

I first met sensei back when I was in the 9th grade (today I'm 53). I remember being awe struck when I took my first class in the martial arts world and with the messages (believe in yourself, know your inner strength, respect yourself and others, etc...) that sensei would incorporate into the class. From that first encounter, with my parents sitting on those seats in the tiny East Islip dojo watching me, I was hooked . Looking back now I can honestly say that that is when my life changed and when the path that I am currently on began.
For the lessons that you taught me (physical and mental) I want to say thank you. Thank you for changing my life on so many levels and I am sure the lives of many others. Thank you sensei Bob. Rest In Peace.

Dear Malvagno Family,

I am deeply sadden to hear about the loss of Bob. My first encounter with Bob was in 1991 when my daughter Olivia enrolled in the Bob Malvagno School of Self Defense. Witin a couple of years my entire family was learning from the Master. There is no doubt that Bob was a great Marital Artist, but his gift was loving people. He always made you feel comfortable and he always welcomed you. My family and I had the pleasure of getting to know his family. Bob was just the quintessential Bob. He was a very generous man and loved people where they were at. Through the Marital Arts and outside of the Marital Arts he touched many lives. Every restaurant I went to with Bob, they all the loved him. He was respectful and dignified. Bob, you left a indelible mark on my life. Your encouragement was priceless to me. You will be missed deeply.

With Love your students and friends for life,
Rocco, Lucia, Olivia, Rocco , Luciano Vignola

I was shocked and saddened to learn that Grand Master Bob, a true legend in the martial arts community, passed away at the young age of 66. I was a student at his school from 1989 until around 2000 or 2001 (over ten years). Grand Master Bob always referred to Jiu Jitsu as “The Gentle Art” and when he taught, his techniques flowed like a perfectly choreographed dance. But the training was much more than just learning techniques… it was also a journey to open your mind and heart and to know yourself better. There is truly no one else like him in the martial arts community or in life. We all said that he was born for this mission. Jiu Jitsu was Grand Master Bob’s passion and he touched every soul that stepped onto his mat with his positive, uplifting attitude and love of life! It was the proudest moment of my life when Grand Master Bob tied that black belt around my waist at my black belt promotional during 1994. I hadn’t seen Grand Master Bob in many years, but some of the best moments of my life were spent training and teaching at his school. I wish Grand Master Bob well on his journey and am thankful for all the teachings, inspiration, and memories. I will never forget you… Love and Blessing to Grand Master Bob, his family, friends, and students (past and present) at the school! Sensei Barbara

Master Bob was simply an amazing man. From his zest for life, food and family, to his Masterful teachings in the gentle art. He lived and taught thousands to live life to the fullest, project with confidence, live with honor and seek the truth. He was a master public speaker with a way of bonding with his students that kept us all coming back for more as he pushed us all ahead. His skill and technique was second to none. I trained under him in the 90s as I was in college prepping for my career in the NYPD and later the DEA. I savored every advanced class to learn from him, to be able to move like him and apply technique as easily as him. I still cant. No one could. He would say "You can do it.. just 10 million more times and you'll be where I'm at"....we all laughed... In all my travels, I've trained with many people. Master Bob was the best . No one could do what he does. He taught us to live the jiujitsu principles of cone, center, using the body as a unit and no challenge, no resistance no injury on the mat and off. To this day I remember them and have served me well.

Thank you Sensei, for your teachings, your example and your friendship. You will be sorely missed but your legacy will remain... with respect. O'Sensei bow

My memory is long of you. When I think about the family and Gatherings back then, I remember the afternoons of football and all the good food we consumed. The entertainment and attention that you, Robert, gave us as was Unforgettable. The karate chops to the neck and the kicks to the head, that kept us on our toes. Yes my memory is long but our lives together were short. My prayer is that you rest in peace without pain or worry. Your loving cousin Laura

Please accept my deepest condolences on your loss. Bob was my Sensi for many years when he taught at Shima in Deer Park. I started at the age of 10 right after my mother passed away . I was more than a little lost then, but his classes were like a shining light for me. I learned more than martial arts from him. I learned the importance of good character mixed with a healthy dose of humor. He was truly a special man and I am sincerely sorry for your loss

Some people make things happen. Some people watch things happen. And some people ask what just happened? Be the first one !Grand Master Bob, you will be missed. Our family will be forever in your debt for all that you have shared with us. Your passion for the art of JuJitsu, food and wine was so contagious. And for this we are so grateful to you! Because of you we have become people that make things happen and will make sure our future generations will do the same!

Dad,
Words cannot express how deeply saddened I am. The sudden loss of you is truly overwhelming. You are and will always be, my strength; the person who taught me to always stand tall and strong but to also be strong enough to expose my vulnerabilities; the person who taught me to have courage for not only myself but enough for the people I surround myself with; the person Who taught me to believe in myself and to always forge ahead. I will miss crying with you over Rocky movies and commercials. I will miss listening to you sing and singing along with you; You had such a beautiful voice. I Will miss hearing you tell me You love me. I promise that I will always sing happy birthday to people in public and aim to hit that high note; I promise that I will always applaud a good Chef. I promise to teach Luciana everything you have taught me and I promise that I will keep her Peepah’s memory alive within me; through to her.
You are and will always be my dad, my friend my inspiration.
I miss you and love you.
Your loving daughter,
Michelle
