ERROLL, John David, born Ian Alan Henrik Erroll, 11/26/1941, Helsinki, Finland; died October 6, 2017, Highland, NY.
Dr. Erroll completed U.S. military service in Germany, studied psychology at the College of the City of New York, earned his degree in psychology from the University of Helsinki and his Ph.D. at the Derner Institute, Adelphi University.
As a clinical psychologist, Dr. Erroll worked at the Suffolk County Correctional Facility in Riverhead, and while there developed the Y.E.S.program with Ray Jacquin, deputy warden, bringing H.S. students into the prison for the purpose of exposing them to the realities of bad judgment.
He worked for ten years at the Pederson-Krag Center eventually becoming CEO & Executive Director. Decades of private practice focused on the poor and indigent.
During retirement, Dr. Erroll was curator of NYCʼs General Society of Mechanics & Tradesmenʼs Mossman Collection of bank vault locks and time locks. He developed an extensive knowledge and collection of time locks and, with his son, David, produced American Genius, a definitive history and photographic record of early American bank vault locking technology.
Dr. Erroll is survived by his sister, Edda Erroll, her daughter Alanna Khadem & her family, by his wife, Maria Erroll, his son, David Charles and daughter-in-law, Fang Liu and two grandsons, Henrik & Andrew; by his Finnish cousins Martti Berger & family, Erik Erroll & family, Elis Erroll, and Lauri Erroll & family. Family and friends to gather at Raynor & D’Andrea Funeral Home 245 Montauk Hwy West Sayville, New York 11796 on Friday October 13 from 2-4:30 and 7-9:30 p.m.
