Margaret “Eileen” Rehm, 86, of Sayville, died on October 6, with her family at her side after battling a long illness. She shared a lifetime of love with her husband, Kenneth and took great pride in her growing family. A lifelong resident of Sayville, Mrs. Rehm co-owned its first natural food restaurant, Sprouts, in the 1980’s, raised thousands of dollars running the 50-50 Club which supported her brother’s, Fr. Joseph Kelly, missionary work in Africa, member of the Sabre Club, a Eucharistic Minister at St. Lawrence Church and volunteered on the Islip Crisis Hotline for many years. Mrs. Rehm was a voracious reader, loved challenging crossword puzzles, took multiple continuing education courses, traveled worldwide with her husband, held family gatherings and enjoyed their winters in Naples, Florida. She loved to walk to the Bay, practice yoga and ride her bicycle around Sayville.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 67 years, Kenneth, and her five children, Joseph “Rusty” of Valley Stream, Stephen and wife, Sheelagh, of Huntington, Michele and husband, Tim, of St. Paul, MN, Kevin and wife, Linda, of Houston, Texas, Laura and husband, John, of Oakdale; her 11 grandchildren, Kyle, Trevor, Meghan, Craig, Christopher, Celia, Erica, Aaron, Kenneth, Justin and Kellyanne; and her three great-grandchildren, Amelia, Keira and Charlie. She was predeceased by her grandson, Curran Kenneth Rehm; her two sisters, Sister Martha Marie Kelly and Ruth Bicknell; and her brother, Fr. Joseph Kelly.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Raynor & D’Andrea Funeral Home, West Sayville, where friends and family will gather on Tuesday, October 9 from 2 to 4:30 and 7 to 8:30p.m.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Lawrence R.C. Church at 10:00 am on October 10, followed by interment in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org
