Edward Charles Carlsson, beloved husband, father, brother and friend, passed away with family by his side in the early hours of October 3rd, 2019 at the age of 69.
Edward was born on March 31, 1950 in Queens, New York to Edward Francis Carlsson and Irene Gloria (Julier) Carlsson and grew up in Valley Stream, Long Island. Edward excelled in numerous sports and activities, especially wrestling where he won multiple tournaments, championships, honors and awards including placing 2nd in the NYSPHSAA Wrestling Championships. Accepting a wrestling scholarship to the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Edward would graduate receiving his Bachelor of Science in Education. It was there that he met the love of his life, Jean Hannigan, and they were married on November 23, 1974.
Settling in Bayport-Blue Point, Long Island for much of his life, Edward was a devout family man, working his entire life, including 34 years in civil service to the State of New York to provide selflessly and unwaveringly for his wife and their children; sons, Timothy Charles and Eric Shields, and their twin daughters Janine and Julie Carlsson.
Edward enjoyed motorcycles (especially Harley Davidson) which he had been riding since he could walk. He was passionate about firearm collecting, camping, and hunting. He enjoyed fishing, collecting knives and was skilled with his hands; there was little he couldn’t fix. A supportive and caring family man his entire life, Edward had an unshakable conviction, quick wit, great sense of humor, and a charismatic ability to make friends wherever he went. He also had innate writing skills, was a natural with numbers and was a great cook who enjoyed preparing meals for his large family. Following retirement, Edward’s most beloved pastimes included walking the family Doberman, Uncas, and above all else, spending time with his granddaughters Kayleigh Hannigan Carlsson and Evelyn Shields Carlsson.
Edward was preceded in death by his father, Edward, his mother Irene and his son Timothy. He is survived by his wife Jean, his children Eric, Janine and Julie, his daughter-in law Lindsay, his adored granddaughters Kayleigh and Evelyn, his sisters Ann Deborah and Barbara Carlsson, his nephew Ian C. Gianlorenzo, a large extended family and countless friends.
