Charles Bortzfield, 94, of Hampton Bays, formerly of Sayville, LI, died on March 5, 2019. Raised in Brooklyn, Charles fought in the US Army Air Corps during World War II and was part of the C-47 transport at Normandy. He was awarded the Purple Heart. Mr. Bortzfield worked for more than forty years as an Operating Engineer with the Local 138. He was also a longtime member of the VFW, both in Sayville’s Post 433 and Westhampton’s Post 5350.
Mr. Bortzfield is survived by his wife, Jeanne, his six children, Paul of Florida, Mary Stepp of North Carolina, Robert and his wife Nancie of Connecticut, Ray and his wife Pam of Sayville, Christopher and his wife Marybeth of New Jersey and Elaine Night and her husband Gary of Blue Point, as well as his sixteen grandchildren, Erin, Robert, Lisa, Jason, Douglas, Andrea, Jeff, Amy, Bryan, Ashley, Chuck, Alex, Erik, Evan, Margaret and Amanda, and his eighteen great-grandchildren, KaraLynn, JD, Emma, Benjamin, Charlotte, Elizabeth, Emily, Abigail, Thea, Lincoln, Ava, Addison, Jake, Harrison, Ella, Jonathan, Andrew and Grace. He was predeceased by his grandson Benjamin.
