Barbara Ann (Sharpe) Finn

Barbara Ann (Sharpe) Finn of Oakdale passed away suddenly at the age of 78 on Sunday, June 23, 2019. Barbara leaves behind her husband John and five children, Patricia (Stephen Rapiejko), Susan (Michael Adams), Kathleen (James Dean), Mary (Richard Gentleman) and Jennifer (Anthony Kuefner), along with 14 grandchildren. 

Barbara was born in Brooklyn, NY on November 27 and it was there that she met her loving husband at the age of 16. Their love story was much like a fairy tale and they married at the age of 22. The pair moved out to Long Island during the summer of 1972, turning a family-owned property into a beautiful, welcoming home for their children, family and many friends. 

An adoring lover of the arts, Barbara was a leading force in establishing the ORBBA music booster association for the Connetquot School District – an organization that helped to not only celebrate music and fine arts education but also has provided countless scholarships to students. In addition, she served as a Girl Scout leader for many years, inspiring countless girls to achieve their dreams and cultivate the skills needed to become the leaders of tomorrow. Barbara was an eloquent writer, had a passion for cooking and was a vivacious reader. 

Barbara was a champion of all living things but loved nothing more then spending time with her family. She celebrated life every day and was a quick friend to anyone she met – in fact, to know her was to love her. Barbara was an active member of her church, St. John Nepomucene, volunteering over the years in many capacities, including – as a grandmother – running a playgroup for toddlers and assisting her husband with the Knights of Columbus. 

Barbara’s life will be celebrated and honored during a memorial mass on Thursday, July 11 at St. John Nepomucene Church in Bohemia beginning at 11 a.m.
