Janet Draffin, 61, a 30-year resident of Bayport, died on Sunday, March 24, 2024. Janet earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and went on to earn her Master’s Degree in Social Work at Stony Brook University. She worked for nearly forty years with Suffolk County in the Labor Department and Social Services, finishing as an Assistant Division Administrator. She served multiple terms as AME Unit President and was their Negotiating Team Chairperson and full-time release Legislative Liaison.
Janet was also a very active volunteer and community advocate. In addition to being a longtime member of the Sayville Yacht Club, she served as; Sylvan Avenue Elementary School PTA President, a member of the Bayport-Blue Point PTA District Council, was a founding member of the Bayport Civic Association, founder and 10-year mentor of the BBP Junior Civic Association, longtime member of the BBP Chamber of Commerce where she currently served as the Chairperson of their Beautification Committee, Past Secretary and Immediate Past Vice President of the Sayville Rotary Club, where she was recognized as a Rotary Foundation Sustaining Member and multiple times as a Paul Harris Fellow.
Mrs. Draffin is survived by her husband, Bob, her two children, Mary and her fiancé Sam Salata, and Billy and his girlfriend Lauren Cruz-Del Valle, her siblings, Bill Morrissey and his wife Patty, Trish DeCicco and her husband Joe, David Reichhold and his wife Sharon, Dennis Reichhold and his wife Amanda, Michele Summers and her husband Pat and Victoria DeLeo, as well as her fifteen nieces and nephews.
Friends and relatives will gather on Thursday, March 28th, 7-9:30 p.m. and Friday, March 29th, 2-4:30 & 7-9:30 p.m. at Raynor & D’Andrea Funeral Home in Bayport. A church service will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 30th at St. Ann’s Episcopal Church in Sayville and interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Bay Shore.
