Susanne Cecelia Cotton

Susanne Cecelia Baumer Cotton, age 65, died on Friday, September 9, 2016 in Fort Worth, Texas. She was born in Mineola, NY on June 10, 1951 to Vincent Michael Baumer and Sarah (Sally) Rita Quinn Baumer, formerly of Bethpage and Sayville, NY.

She graduated from Sayville High School in 1969. In 1976 she relocated to Paris, Tennessee where she lived for 25 years.   She graduated from Murray State University in Murray, KY with double master’s degrees in English and Philosophy.  Following her graduation from Murray State and relocation to Fort Worth, Texas she began teaching as a high school English teacher for the Dallas school district and subsequently as an English and Philosophy professor at Tarrant County College.  She continued teaching in the Dallas – Fort Worth area until her retirement last year.

Left to honor Susanne and remember her love are Susanne’s two children, Jennifer E. (Nicholas) Baumer Grant and Cody C. Cotton; and two grandchildren; Caitlyn Q. Tomlin and Alyssa A. Tomlin; a sister, Barbara A. (Tom Sr.) Youngs; six nephews; Tom (Bonnie) Youngs, Jr., Christopher Youngs, Patrick (Denise) Youngs, William (Katie) Youngs, Terance Youngs, Matthew Youngs; two nieces; Kathleen (Brian Monahan) Youngs, Coleen (Kurt) Parker; and many great-nephews and great-nieces.

She will be remembered for her unending generosity and her huge heart of gold.  She had compassion for all living things and a passion for learning.  Susanne had a way of looking at the world unlike any other.  Even in her last days she refused to give up hope. She will be terribly missed by all who knew her.

The memorial visitation will be from 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm on Sunday, September 18th at the Raynor and D’Andrea Funeral Home in West Sayville, NY.  A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, September 19, 10 a.m. at St. Lawrence RC Church, Sayville, NY. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Wounded Warrior Project in Susanne’s name and also in dedication to veterans such as her father.
