Just responded to a Facebook post asking who your favorite teacher was. Of course, no other than Mr. McGee. My brother had him before me and feels the same. Saw him many years after I graduated at my sons track meet. I did speak to him at that time. Not only did her remember me but asked about my brother. He was one of a kind. A great teacher and a wonderful person.

Francis was probably one of my dad' best friends. Since the time I was small I remember him always talking about Francis.one of the few couples that I knew could get both my mother and father on an airplane to Ireland. I always remember Freddie smiling and chuckling.

RIP. Mr. McGee, one of my favorite teachers at Commack High School. His drill sergeant ways on the first day of the year (10th grade??) scared us straight, but he was a great teacher and a softie at heart. He will be missed.

Today is National Teachers Day so my mind went immediately to my favorite teacher of my entire life Mr. McGee. He was a wonderful teacher and long after I graduated he became a good friend. I went up to the high school every time I was back on Long Island. My condolences to Mr. (call me Fred) McGee’s family. 52 years after my graduation Mr. McGee remains in my heart. He came to our 30th reunion in 1996. What a great honor.

I just saw this and felt very sad. I never had Mr. McGee as a teacher but always felt respectful of him. Something about the dignified way he carried himself and te way treated others.
My condolences to his family.
(I couldn’t resist tagging on to your post, Renee.)

Mr. McGee was my favorite teacher in high school. I ran into him years after I graduated at a track meet my son was running in. true to who he was he remembered me and asked about my older brother who was also one of his students. A wonderful man who enjoyed life. Will always carry his memory as will hundreds of others.

Mr. McGee is my favorite teacher of all time. I will be 70 this month and will remember him always. When a bus didn't come and I was scheduled for a regents I called the school. My Mom and Dad worked and he volunteered to come pick me up. The next September I was fortunate enough to be assigned to his history class. The first day he gave his introductory speech about what was expected of us. He inserted into this speech the fact that each year he only picks up one student and that this class had already filled its quota. He didn't name me and it was our private joke.
He was tough but you did not want to let him down. When he was appointed Dean of Discipline my girl friend and I decided to cut school, well we got caught. We had to come to school the next day with our parent. I guess it was nerves but walking in to school the next morning with my Father I had a terrible urge to laugh. Until Mr. McGee walked into the room. When he questioned why I said "I didn't do my homework." He met privately with my Dad afterwards and I was admitted back to school. I remember sitting in his class for days afterwards with my head down because I knew I had disappointed him. He let me stew for a few days but then in some small way let me know it was ok and to move on.
Many years later I was thrilled when I recognized him officiating at my youngest daughter's track meet, she is now 44. My deepest sympathy to you all. He was a great man. Susan Mullins Silverstein Commack Class of 1965

It is with great sadness that I learned of Fred's passing. I worked with him for 30 years and he was a fine administrator and colleague. Always fair and kind, he was delightful to work with and for. My warmest thoughts go out to his family and loved ones this most difficult time.

I enjoyed working with Fred during my tenure in Commack as Director of HPER. He was always very direct and one never needed to guess where he was coming from. He was a very competent administrator and was respected by his colleagues. Please accept my sincere expression of sympathy for your loss.
