Gentle, humble, respected by all who knew him…

One of five children, of whom he especially admired his two sisters, Mary and Claire.

His mother, Katie Mulroy, was a one-room school house teacher and an amazing story-teller.

His father, Charles Jordan, was the “Master Mech” (Mechanic) for the construction of the early infrastructure for New York City.  A young, John, himself worked with him as a Sandhog.

Born Christmas Eve of 1918.  Lived in Queens the first half of his long life, and Purdy Station, Northern Westchester, his second half.  He met his wife of 69 years, Audrey Coelln, on the train to Bishop Loughlin High School, and he lived his life entirely devoted to Audrey, who pre-deceased him November 17, 2013.

John was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Coast Guard – Air-Sea Rescue, Greenland.  Among many associations, he was a member of Saints Joachim & Anne Holy Name Society, the VFW, Croton Falls Fire Dept., Meals On Wheels, North Salem Historical Society, Landmark Chairman and the Steamfitters’ Union.

John leaves his three children, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren:

Denise Jordan McFadden (Paul), Colin Jordan (Kathy), Corinne Jordan Houston (Joel), Heather McFadden Echevarria, (Paul), Danielle McFadden, Matthew, Chris, Reilly, Logan & Makenna Jordan, Dr. Morgan Houston, Campbell Houston (Michelle), Jordan, Erin & Nicole Echevarria.

Through his example, John gave them all an appreciation of history, walking through the woods, identifying fossils and early artifacts.  He and his wife, Audrey, participated in many Elder Hostiles, exploring and appreciating cultures other than our own.  John made small wooden toys, and he played Santa Clause every year for an ever expanding family.  Inheriting his mother’s gift of presenting, John charmed everyone with his story-telling, and leaves us all with such a SMILE in our hearts for him being in our lives...
