Gloria Perkins, 95 of Queens Village, NY, died peacefully in her sleep with her family near on Wednesday, May 3, 2017.  Born in Winston-Salem, NC, to Clemmett and Carolyn Perkins, Gloria was a child violin prodigy. She began playing the violin at age 2 and the family shortly moved to New York so that Gloria could study music. She was a student of the noted Louis Persinger whose students included Yehudi Menuhin, Ruggiero Ricci, and Isaac Stern.  Gloria performed throughout the country to rave reviews.  In 1933 she had her debut as guest soloist with the National Symphony Orchestra playing Mendelssohn Concerto.  At her New York Town Hall recital in 1936 music critics proclaimed her to be “a genius and the finest child violinist in the world”. Gloria performed throughout the East coast for years and was featured and reviewed in numerous nationally recognized newspapers and journals including the New York Times, Time Magazine, and New York Magazine.  In 1972 Gloria returned to the Town Hall stage to perform again to a full house and received radiant reviews. Creative in every right, she also was known for her work as a talented portrait artist.

Gloria remained devoted to her music and teaching violin and piano into her early nineties.  She leaves behind three nieces, a nephew, and ten grandnieces and nephews.

Services for Gloria will be held at Raynor & D’Andrea Funeral Home, Bayport, NY, from 2-4pm and 7-9pm on Monday, May 8th.   A mass of Christian burial will be held at Our Lady of the Snow R.C.
