Interment: Sunday, February 18th, 11 a.m. at St. Ann's Cemetery, Sayville.
Bruce Garben, 87, of West Sayville, formerly of Islip, LI, died on Friday, February 9, 2018. Raised in Islip, Bruce attended the University of Virginia and returned to Islip where he raised his family and was a very active member of the community. Mr. Garben was a longtime insurance underwriter and also owned and operated Country Health and Diet Foods on Main Street in Islip for 35 years. He was a 60-year member of the Meridian Masonic Lodge in Islip; a longtime member, board member and two-time President of the Islip Chamber of Commerce; and an active member and choir member of the Islip United Methodist Church. After moving to West Sayville 29 years ago, Mr. Garben volunteered at the Long Island Maritime Museum; volunteered and served as librarian at the Bayport Aerodrome; was an active member of the Sayville United Methodist Church; and sang in their choir; he was a member of the Sayville Yacht Club and Civil Air Patrol.
Mr. Garben is survived by his wife, June, his two children, Lynn Blasso of Saratoga Springs and Thomas Garben and his wife Ellen of Connecticut, as well as his four grandchildren, Gregory (Marrianne) and Douglas Blasso, Seth and Rachel Garben.
