Our History
Raynor & D'Andrea Funeral Home is one of the oldest businesses in the Sayville area. Founded in 1874 by Charles L. Raynor, the firm has been family owned and operated since that time. The funeral home primarily serves families in Sayville, West Sayville, Oakdale, Bohemia, Bayport, Blue Point and Patchogue.

For most of its existence, the firm was located at various places on Main Street in Sayville, the last being 176 Main Street. It was while the firm was at that location that Gilbert J. D'Andrea came to be associated with the firm. Mr. D'Andrea had grown up in Amityville and had worked at various funeral homes on Long Island before serving in the Army during Vietnam. When he returned home, he moved to West Sayville in 1967 and began work with the funeral home. Several years later, he was made a partner.

In the late 1960's, the partners recognized that the growth in the communities they served would require a larger facility in order to continue to provide a superior level of comfort and convenience. They arranged to acquire the present funeral home location at 245 Montauk Highway in West Sayville. The building was one of the first on Long Island to be designed specifically as a funeral home, rather than being an adaptation of an old house or office, and thirty years later still provides an exceptional level of spaciousness and comfort. In 1994, an opportunity to better serve the Bayport-Blue Point and Patchogue communities became available, and the Bayport-Blue Point Funeral Home was acquired along with the services of funeral director Nick Malyk.

In 1995, Gil’s son Richard became licensed and joined the firm to continue in the family tradition. In 2004, Richard purchased the business and while Chuck and Gil have started to enjoy a more relaxed schedule, they continue to work with the firm.

Today, many funeral homes have convenient, comfortable facilities, but few firms match the level of caring and concern for each family served. Throughout the years, this sense of caring has been a hallmark of the service provided by Raynor & D'Andrea Funeral Homes. It begins with our commitment to provide every family we serve with a dignified, unique funeral experience. We have also made a commitment to hire permanent staff who are also rooted in the community with a strong desire to meet the needs of each family they serve.

Raynor & D'Andrea Funeral Homes provide a full range of services to families of all faiths in their communities. Traditional funerals comprise the majority of their services, but they also provide direct burial, direct cremation, arrangements for memorial services or almost any type of arrangement a family might request.

Today, with many individuals opting to pre-arrange funerals for themselves or for loved ones, Raynor & D'Andrea will counsel with those individuals to pre-arrange the funeral of their choice. They can also assist with the pre-funding of those funeral arrangements through a trust established with Cooperative Funeral Fund (CFF).

When a death occurs, Raynor & D'Andrea will be there to make planning the funeral service and attending to all the details as easy as possible for you. They will assist in obtaining death certificates, preparing obituary notices, filing Social Security and Veteran's forms, insurance forms, in addition to making arrangements with clergy and cemeteries. They feel it is their job to explain the options to families and then make arrangements based on the family's desires.

Raynor & D'Andrea has recently arranged to have a small tree (a "Memory Tree") sent to each family they have served, in memory of the person who has died. This program is meant to give the families a visual living tribute that they can plant in memory of their loved one.
